To tame pets, you have to be a Hunter. To become a Hunter at level 10 (1 Dan 0 Kyu) you speak
to the Hunter Trainer on the top level of Dragon Castle (he's on your map) and choose your job as Hunter. From the trainer
you will get the Taming Skill. You need to pump skill points into it before the Howl of Tame skill can be used.
To
put skills on your toolbar, open your skill page (B), if its the first time you have opened it pump some skill points into
the Howl of Tame skill with the little +, then drag the opened skill to your toolbar. Right-click the skill on your toolbar
or use the corresponding number key to use it on a mob.
You need to be at least the level of the animal you are taming
or higher for it to work best. At beginning levels, you can only tame the wolves and bears in the Highlands. You cant tame
the larger boss wolf or bear at all (although many have tried lol).
Taming can be tricky, basically you have to get
the mob down to 10% or less HP (you can click his hp bar to see numbers). If he dies too fast to get to 10% then use your
bare fists. Using manual attack instead of auto attack (press F key to toggle) helps keep you from accidentally killing it
when you get the HP low.
Then (with weapon equipped) use the tame skill which should be on your toolbar at the bottom
(right click it or use the corresponding number key).
If tame doesnt work it sometimes will heal the mob, just keep
trying Smile The healing means the skill did land, it just failed. If it dies when you use tame, look in your inventory, you
may have caught him!
The class mounts in VS are difficult because they heal themselves. A good Para weapon or having
a Physician/Combat Medic with Para skill in your party will help a lot Smile Unless you are quite a bit higher than the class
mounts you will most likely need a taming party to have enough damage to get their hp down to 10% or less.
If you mouse
over the tame skill on your toolbar it shows the Taming Ability. I believe this number matches up with the mob level your
tame skill will work on. Adding skill points will up this number.
When you catch your first pet wolf, you can equip
him by right clicking his icon in your inventory and to pull him out (or put him away) press the T key (with chat box closed
lol). Dont forget to feed him! Wolves and Bears like meat food you can buy at the tavern Smile If he dies (oh you meanie!)
buy Dead Spirit Incense at the Horse shop out the north gate in DC for 10k (or cheaper sometimes to buy from players). To
use it, just right click the incense. You will get more of these pet revival incense from Lots and drops eventually Smile
basically
these are the normal combat pets that can be tamed:
Black Wolf (Highlands) Grey Bear (Highlands) Magical Hawk
(Southern Plains) (turns into red hawk when tamed) Great Tiger (Southern Plains)
not the larger mini boss versions
of the wolf and bear, those cant be tamed (darnit!) nor can horses Smile
and class mounts that can be tamed (Venom
Swamp). You can ride them at lvl 23:
Great Wolf - Assassin Flying Lion - Warrior Snow Tiger - Physician Reindeer
- Hunter

I
have seen some higher level mobs like fierce reindeer but havent tamed one yet. I know deer evolve to fierce but Im thinking
these can be tamed too? A higher level hunter will have to tell us Smile
One thing to note, if you have trained/leveled
your pet to an evolved state where you would be too low of a level to equip him, do not unequip or you won't be able to re-equip
him til you are the specified level to do so.
